From One Empowered Woman to Another: Building the Life We Deserve

From One Empowered Woman to Another: Building the Life We Deserve

There’s a kind of strength that isn’t always loud. It doesn’t wear a title or stand at a podium. It’s the kind of strength you find in the quiet moments — holding your child when you’re exhausted, creating something from nothing, choosing to believe in your dream even when no one else sees it.

That kind of strength lives in so many women I know.
It lives in me. And I know it lives in you too.

I’m a single mother, an immigrant, a creative soul trying to build a life of meaning here in Nova Scotia. I came from Mexico with so much hope, gratitude, and fire in my heart — ready to give my knowledge, my passion, my art, my voice. I’ve worked in graphic design, marketing, and film production. But for the past few years, finding a job — or building a life that lets me thrive — has felt almost impossible.

I’m not sharing this to complain. I’m sharing it because I know I’m not alone.

There are so many of us — women carrying the weight of our families, our cultures, our healing journeys — all while trying to create something better. We are resourceful. We are passionate. We’ve turned survival into an art form. And yet… it still feels like the system wasn’t built for us to succeed.

But I still dream. And I dream big.

I want to build something called The Corner Pitch — a place that starts with the warmth of Mexican baked goods and becomes a creative community hub. A kitchen space where women like me can cook, sell, and thrive. A space where art, healing, and culture come together — where people can sing, talk, paint, pitch their ideas, share their stories, and just be.

A space for LGBTQ+ kids. For single moms. For dads doing their best. For anyone looking for peace, purpose, and connection.

But it’s been hard. Commercial kitchens are expensive and scarce. Loans are hard to get when you already carry debt. Balancing motherhood, mental health, and survival while trying to build something new — it sometimes feels like the odds are stacked.

And still, we try. Because we believe in more.

I believe in a future where abundance isn’t reserved for the few. Where our healing, our culture, and our creativity are not side projects — but the center of something powerful. I believe in community. In sharing. In supporting each other’s dreams, not just clapping when they come true.

If you’re reading this and you’ve felt unseen, unheard, or stuck in a world that doesn’t quite make space for you — I see you. I feel you. And I want to build with you.

This is more than a business. It’s a movement. A calling. A ripple that begins with women choosing to believe in each other, support each other, and build the life we all deserve.

With love, with truth, and with unshakable faith in our power,

Ruth...
